The City Project imagines what a happier, healthier, more just and more sustainable city could look like – and how we get there.

Books in The City Project are accessible, and able to be “read in one afternoon”. They are written in plain language in order to welcome all people into the conversation about building a better place.

In this series, we will introduce you to some of the amazing people that are busy co-creating their city’s future. Using Winnipeg as a case study, each book features one of them sharing, in their own words, one aspect of building a better city for everyone, from city finance to reconciliation to transportation, greenspace and more.

  • The loyal city-dweller who sees their city’s potential amidst all its struggles.
  • The traveller (armchair or otherwise) who searches for commonality and inspiration to better understand their own place.
  • The city lover or urbanist who knows that a great city is so much more than a collection of roads and buildings.
  • Anyone with a curious spirit and a desire to overcome the most pressing challenges of life in today’s North American city.

Whoever you are, we hope this series can inform and inspire you. But more importantly, that it can spur you to action, whether you’re in Winnipeg or elsewhere, to also get started building the city you want to have.
